These bacon flavored dog treats are my dogs all time favorite choice, due to the hard crunching texture and meat flavor! They go nuts over them!
Since it is the firm variety of tidbits and snacks, that are best for dog's teeth, this particular recipe fits the bill perfectly.
Softer goodies should only be given on occasion, but these can be more of an everyday treat!
½ cup milk
¼ cup vegetable oil**
½ cup water
3 cups whole wheat flour
½ cup real bacon bits or 6-8 slices of crumbled bacon
Combine oil, milk, egg, and water. Add flour, and mix. You will not be able to completely mix it all together with a spoon, as it is a thick dough. Drop in the bits, and finish kneading it, with your hands.
Turn batter out, onto a lightly floured surface, and roll between ¼ and ½ inch thick. Cut into shapes with a cookie cutter and place on a baking sheet.
Bake at 325 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
**Bacon grease may be substituted for the vegetable oil.
