Soft dog treats should be reserved as a special occasion snack, due to dogs needing harder crunch power, for keeping their teeth clean.
If you own older dogs that already have dental problems, then you may be interested in a soft, homemade dog cookie recipe.
These 2 recipes are eagerly gobbled up by my Golden Retrievers!
1/2 cup honey
3/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
3 TBSP brown sugar
1 egg
2 cups wheat flour
2 teas baking soda
1 teas ginger
1 teas cinnamon
1/2 teas cloves
Mix wheat flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
In a separate bowl, blend honey, applesauce, brown sugar, and egg. Add in flour mixture and stir well.
Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
3/4 c. mashed bananas
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 c. peanut butter
1/8 c. oil
1 & 1/2 cups quick oats
Stir the first 4 ingredients together, with a wooden spoon. Mix in the oats and drop by heaping teaspoon onto a cookie sheet. Press flat.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Yield: About 2 dozen
